RE: "Billionaire control over a vast chunk of the world’s productive resources is literally killing millions of people every year." --- Not quite the actual case in that it takes time to accumulate wealth even in today's sped-up economy where one good idea can bring millions and even billions to the individual. And where our tax system actually rewards charity giving. eople become celebrities because they spent the time and took the risks needed to reach success - eventually. Only those inheriting wealth are of the type you mention and there are laws that impose costs and reductions in inherited wealth. Given our love for cokmpetitive games of all sorts, it behooves me to say that competing for wealth is the best thing about the Capitalist / Free Market economic system. Also, study briefly the actual history of Lotto winners and it becomes clear that just handing people wealth doesn't work for human beings. The evolution you mention is all about competing even in play. Finally, it's elitist governments and governors who block helpless populations from self determination.
