I spent the earlier part of today teaching myself the art of mindfulness.
>>Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention to the present. This state is described as observing one’s thoughts and feelings without judging them as good or bad.<<

Example: I taught myself to simply concentrate on eating a bowl of vegetable beef soup after putting it through my Cuisinart processor and heating it per the instructions. This was the most flavorful soup I’ve eaten so far this year!

In other words, just by concentrating on getting spoonfuls of soup into my mouth started the entire pleasurable process of eating.

Sidebar: You may wonder why I started teaching myself mindfulness and it’s simple. I have lost my permanent dentures and it will take months to get them replaced. Meanwhile, I found that eating wasn’t as pleasurable as it has been throughout my lifetime. So I was simply trying to regain the pleasure of eating.

This has broader applications for all of us. I started out thinking about how I could make today most memorable for me. I think that as we age (I am in my late seventies), we tend to think we are losing basic pleasures on life along with our native abilities. This can lead to depressive thoughts. I did…
